THANK YOU TO ALL OUR KICKSTARTER BACKERS:
From Here To There! is a Science Fiction Romantic Comedy about a young man named Casper who builds a teleportation device based on the concepts of 'Port and Starboard' that can take him anywhere in the world. He attempts to use his creation to garner the affections of his crush “Ellen” but she’s just not that into him. In their small adventure, things go wrong and malfunction with the teleporter and they eventually travel to Edinburgh where Casper learns what love is about, and the importance of valuing himself and his creation!
Casper is a creative genius and an inventing prodigy but his motives are more based on people liking him rather than his own creative pursuits. The film explores how he attempts to win over the heart of a girl who, in the end, is only interested in his newly created teleporter rather than actually liking him as a person.
The Idea's origins: One of my loves in writing science fiction stories and concepts is using principles that many are familiar with and adding magic to them. Growing up near the sea in South West Scotland I was often greeted everywhere I went with the concept of 'Port and Starboard' I'd often see the red and green lanterns in pubs near the sea front.
In this film Casper uses 'Port and Starboard' as if they were real gravitational powers to guide and in some cases using friction power the teleporters function.
Ellen see's Casper use the teleporter for the first time

When I was walking through a field early summer last year and with all of the COVID restrictions in place, I for a moment wondered if some genius in the world with their frustrations of not being able to travel anywhere was working on inventing a teleporter, with this idea the story started to almost write itself. I have always loved science fiction and the challenge of making a simple story with a teleportation device and only 2 main characters became a fascinating idea. I knew it could have the potential to be fun and exciting, funny and engaging and a great showcase for the actors in the part.
I think it's important to have stories of personal struggle in the high concept worlds of Science Fiction and Fantasy. In the worlds of Star Wars, Harry Potter and Star Trek we see very basic ideas of good vs evil but also smaller stories can be told about how someone decides to value themselves, their loved one and those around them. With this story I wanted the viewer to feel the fun excitement of the perils of travelling to different places and the fun that can be had with such a story.
Hello, World!
